USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) On September 14, 1976, while USS
John F. Kennedy was conducting underway refueling operations alongside
USS
Bordelon (DD-881), the ships came together and collided when the destroyer suffered from sterring
difficulties northwest of Scapa Flow, Scotland. The main mast snapped and fell on the signal shack,
injuring six crew members of USS
Borelon, caused damage to USS
Bordelon's port bow and some of the
superstructure. USS
John F. Kennedy suffered minor damage to forward elevator and tore a gash in the
side from he anchor.
