USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) On November 22, 1975, USS
Belknap (CG-26) was severely damaged in a collision with aircraft carrier
USS
John F. Kennedy off the coast of Sicily. A fire broke out on USS
Belknap following the collision,
and during the fire her aluminum superstructure was melted, burned, and gutted to the deck level.
One crew member on USS
John F. Kennedy was killed and seven others were killed on USS
Belknap.
